How to Use Conditional Fields

Written by Trisha Capusi

What are Conditional Fields?

Conditional Fields allow Blueink documents to dynamically show or hide fields based on signer input. This feature helps create more flexible eSignature workflows while keeping documents cleaner and easier to complete.

Instead of displaying every field to every signer, you can control when specific fields appear using simple rules.

This helps:

  • Reduce unnecessary fields

  • Improve signing accuracy

  • Simplify complex workflows

  • Minimize the need for duplicate templates

How to Access Conditional Fields

  1. Open or create an Envelope Template.

  2. Add your document fields.

  3. Click any field you want to use for Conditional Fields.

  4. In the field settings panel, scroll to Conditional Fields.

  5. Click Add Rule.

How to Create a Conditional Rule

1. Select a Trigger Field

Choose the field that will control the condition.

This can be:

  • Text Field

  • Dropdown

  • Checkbox

  • Other supported fields

2. Set the Condition

Choose when the rule should apply.

Examples:

  • Equal

  • Not Equal

Then enter the value that should trigger the condition.

3. Select Fields to Show

Under Fields to Show When Condition is Met:

  • Select the fields that should appear when the condition is satisfied.

  • You can select fields directly from the dropdown or click fields inside the document viewer.

4. Create the Rule

Click Create Rule to save the Conditional Field setup.

During signing, the document will automatically update based on the signer’s input.

Conclusion

Conditional Fields make it easier to create dynamic and responsive eSignature documents in Blueink. By displaying fields only when needed, teams can simplify workflows while improving the overall signing experience.
